I think it is a smart, stirring play that will get many people talking and thinking.

I look forward to SJP's portrayal of Sarah Daniels. I also agree that Miranda Richardson deserves on Oscar. She is a brilliant actor.Beeznerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00639975718415606218noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11122973.post-1170115399400317002007-01-29T16:03:00.000-08:002007-01-29T16:03:00.000-08:00hey JRT: good thoughts about SJP. I'm not sure how I feel about her--she's not the strongest actress in the world and I could think of a host of folk who could be Sarah Daniels (a friend gave me the play a year ago and I loved it. I'm going to buy it and re-read it again).

But, with Miranda Richardson (will the academy GIVE this woman an oscar? sheesh!) and indie actor Victor Rasuk (who's building quite the quirky character actor resume these days), I'm definitely putting it on my list of films to see this yearRyan Cantyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12957911952441418201noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11122973.post-1169925270653328382007-01-27T11:14:00.000-08:002007-01-27T11:14:00.000-08:00about "...Butter"Yeah, a (black female) friend of ...about "...Butter"

Yeah, a (black female) friend of mine actually directed a staging of "Spinning Into Butter" at Oberlin College about 4 years ago. It was very supported by communities of color on campus, as well as the liberal white audience (which really isn't saying much since Oberlin is that type of uberliberal campus)

Basically, the big question in the story is where is the line between political correctness and personal/experiential attitudes on race.

I've known about the film for quite some time and it should be interesting. It's really hard for me to invision SJP in the lead though, she seems too close to that "guilty white liberal," she may make the Sarah Daniels character too accessible and "likable." Also in the play, we never meet the victimized black student, and that may change in the film.

jason
jbyrd130@gmail.comAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
