I ...I sort of understand the interest in spectacle. I don't understand the willingness to collude. I find the station's response unacceptable, but not surprising in this time in which "political correctness" is commonly thought to be a social ill.Mendi Obadikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06038610861985625589noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11122973.post-1133822151948374432005-12-05T14:35:00.000-08:002005-12-05T14:35:00.000-08:00Frank, I hear you. Jamaica really has got to get its act together and I don't say that facilely.

Mendi, such a good question. I mean, what on earth would be entertaining about this? I was thinking, perhaps if you're a Black person and have worked it out, perhaps it could be the sheer interest in spectacle, or you want to see how those around you who haven't worked it out are taking it in (so it's almost like an empirical or scientific experience), or perhaps you want to see just how far this creature goes. What does it mean to provide this creature with an audience? To participate? To collude?

Saying all of that, the playing of that song and the station's response to the complaint enrage me.John Khttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08073378940347627766noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11122973.post-1133785976189705752005-12-05T04:32:00.000-08:002005-12-05T04:32:00.000-08:00Rest in Peace, Lenford "Steve" Harvey. Let's say that you are a black person and have it all worked out and are not offended by the act. What I still don't get is: Why is it entertaining? Why is that what you want to see?Mendi Obadikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06038610861985625589noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11122973.post-1133754327919250662005-12-04T19:45:00.000-08:002005-12-04T19:45:00.000-08:00John, this post was absolutely crucial.
